Employee Spotlight: Meet Jen Marlin

Meet Jennifer Marlin: our Investment Operations Assistant and cheerleader of FSB Premier.

Jen has been working with Premier since August 2021. She brings 14 years of experience working in Investor Services as a licensed Retirement Specialist for Principal Financial Group out of Des Moines. So far, she's enjoyed getting to know and work with her coworkers and play a small role in helping people feel more at ease about their wealth management. 

But that wasn't what Jen originally had in mind. In fact, she never expected to call Iowa home! 

Jen was born in New Orleans and spent her childhood raised in the suburbs of St. Louis, Missouri. Unsure of what she wanted to study in college, her mother pointed out Jen's writing ability and suggested focusing on a career in broadcast journalism. Eventually, that led her to the University of Iowa, where her older sister also went to study. She was familiar with the atmosphere in Iowa City -- cheering on the Hawkeyes, tailgating, the vibrant community -- and her parents wanted Jen to go to a place where she felt confident she would enjoy herself at. 

Upon graduation, Jen worked in TV news at WOI-TV in Des Moines as a news producer. There, she met her husband, Jim, a news photographer, and they became inseparable. A year later, they were engaged and moved to the Cedar Valley where they both worked for KWWL-TV. They had their first child together, and shortly after, Jen decided working weekends, nights and holidays was not conducive to her family life. So, when she saw the open position at Principal, she decided to apply -- and the rest is history.

Now, Jen's life is all about her husband and two kids, Gracie (14) and Jackson (12). Whether it be a cross country meet, a football game, or marching in the school's band, Jen is always there cheering her kids on and giving them confidence in whatever they do.

Jen and her family are always up for an adventure. Recently, they traveled on an Alaskan cruise through National Geographic where they saw glaciers, Alaskan wildlife, hiked the landscape, and even did the polar plunge! They've also traveled to Vail, Colorado, where they drove ATV's, went white water rafting, hiking and horseback riding. Sports has also been a favorite past time for Jen and her family. Aside from the Hawkeyes, they cheer on the Cubs, Cardinals, and a plethora of NFL teams -- depending on which family member you ask! 

Jen is always able to find the enjoyment in life, and that's no different when it comes to managing finances. Money shouldn't be intimidating, and with every financial decision made, Jen ensures her clients feel optimistic and confident with their strategies.
